He was drawn in November of 2001.0:30His drawing is counting ten people.0:33It is nothing short of a relief to share my efforts with the brotherhood of people that I have been drawing.0:39Every fireman that I talked to was sympathetic, encouraging, and interested in my undertaking.0:44They had lost several people from their station.0:47It was comforting to be surrounded by the objects and materials that I tried to imagine all day.0:53It was the first time that I got a chance to draw the helmets and jackets from real life.0:58My efforts were added to the mixture of projects that had poured in from around the world1:02and knelt before all their lost ones.1:05Rescue Company No. 1 is located on 43rd Street between 10th and 11th Avenue.1:11I arrived there around 9 p.m.1:13I was not alone.1:14There were about a dozen people or so outside.1:17Overhearing their conversations, I discovered that they were from the Midwest, Cali, Canada, and New York.1:23A lot of people were in town for the funerals and memorial services,1:27There was a makeshift memorial of plastic flowers, candles, and cards outside.1:33I asked if I could go in.1:36The New York Times printed a two-day spread of all the deceased firemen.1:41It is the one in this photo and the source of images for all of the firemen's portraits.1:48His eulogy described Gary Box as the one person he knew who demonstrated such consistent focus of ideals1:54and his commitment to his family, his friends, his job,1:57and the challenges that he faced in his day-to-day life.2:00Gary Bach spent his free time playing with his two children2:03or fixing up his family's North Belmore home.← Location 136Heart Two · Location 137Location 138 →
