She was drawn in March of 2003. Her drawing is counting six people.1:06We are doing the best we can to represent everyone as a unique individual and as accurate an approximation as possible of how they would appear.1:17For all who passed away at the World Trade Center, we have carried a photograph.1:20When we saddle up to a wall, we draw with the references of biographies and photographs1:27cross-hatched from various websites.1:29It has been an overwhelming experience to attempt to create people who we have never1:33met, to imagine them in their lives and standing before us.1:38So here I am, drawing Carol Ann Flyzik to the best of my abilities.1:43The environment in this case is unrushed and I concentrate on what I know.1:47Being given the luxury to really focus on this woman and the ten people she is1:52counting makes me painfully aware that every time I draw one of her fingers I'm1:57drawing a life. This process takes its toll on my happiness. One of the reasons2:03this project has taken as long as it has is because every once in a while I have2:08to stop, regain a center, not think about it so I can do better when I return.2:13turn. There's nothing light about what we're doing. A Christmas present of her own. Two tickets to a2:20Celtics game. We had so much fun, she recalled. It was quality time that we never had together before.2:26She considered the empty chair where her stepmom used to sit and watch television.2:30I guess you don't know what you have until it's gone.← Location 229Heart Three · Location 230Location 231 →
