It's 215 West 75th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. When you arrive at this address, you find a pitch black metal gate with barbed wire on top of it. The gate's broken into three panels. The one on the right has a keyhole and the address. The one in the center has a doorbell. And one on the left serves as the canvas for our drawing.0:25This black metal surface is0:28is neighbor by a veterinarian clinic0:29and a cleaners.0:31This is Lieutenant Vincent Halloran.0:35He was0:35drawn in June of 2003.0:38His drawing0:39is counting 10 people.0:42On this block0:43I identified an available spot0:45on an alley fence.0:47My only impediment was a man who looked like a bouncer0:49sitting across the street.0:52I approached him0:53him to explain what I was doing and he was very easy going about it.0:57Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, go ahead.1:00He sat atop a stool watching a back door while chewing a cigar as I went to work.1:07About halfway through he crossed the street to as he said, check out the work.1:12He was impressed by my art making abilities and then shared that he was a survivor of1:18of the disaster and that someone close to him was a policeman that died that day.1:23This led to the discussion about our project and its firefighter-heavy theme,1:27and he was clear to point out that many police passed along with the firefighters.1:32As a dedication to all the policemen and other rescue personnel that lost their lives that day,1:38we started this entire project with the drawing of a policeman, James Leahy.1:43He ran the house, his wife put it, like a camp.1:48wide age range, but he arranged activities for all of them. They'd go fishing, boating,1:53camping, swimming. During the summer, the Hollerans welcomed children from Ireland to1:57stay with them, further swelling their ranks.2:00What can I say, Mrs. Holleran said. He just loved kids.← Location 271Heart Three · Location 272Location 273 →
