He was drawn in July of 2003. His drawing is counting eight people.1:09This first shop's demise is to our benefit. Drawing this many people who have passed away1:14has given rise to thoughts related to the balance of value in relationship to life.1:19A life is a life is a life, each equally precious. The circumstances of a life's undoing and1:27are unique for each person, but sometimes an extraordinary event creates a context1:33in which we remember that person's life. In contrast, the Australian librarian,1:39Tibetan monk, an Argentinian stockbroker who lived their life never related to1:44anything universally remarkable, will eventually pass away without fanfare.1:49When we are drawing the deceased, we are not just drawing the individual person,1:53we are remembering their joined circumstance. The weight of the circumstance brings us together.2:00The volume of their passing is exceeded every hour at a rate of approximately 6,000 people2:05per hour globally. In the calculation of volume versus weight, our engagements in Iraq and2:11Afghanistan surpassed the volume of those who passed away on September 11th in short order.2:18I am aware that at this time, there may be someone in those countries working on an act of remembrance for one of their recently lost loved ones.2:27My thoughts, though, can never settle on volume, and I must remain focused on the individuals who we draw and the circumstances that bound us all together.2:38Cynthia Jovic can't imagine morning coffee without her husband of 16 years.2:42a big kidder and hugger and kisser who never got through a day without several times telling her2:47and the boys he loved them. The son of a Croatian longshoreman, he grew up in Hell's Kitchen.2:53Jovic, 39, impressed all of his friends as being smart enough to win the big one on Jeopardy.2:59When that south tower came down, his soul went right through me.3:02I knew it then. He just went through me, and I knew he was gone.← Location 320Heart Three · Location 321Location 322 →
