On the north side of the street is 71 West 119th Street0:12and on the three stairs leading down to the space between two stoops as of0:17spring 2006 you can see the number 71 at eye level painted on white between two0:23two windows with green bars on them.0:26To the left is a smooth, dark brown side of a stoop leading up to an entranceway that0:33is covered in unpainted raw plywood.0:36The drawing was done triangular type space.0:39This is Charles Mendez.0:42He was drawn in July of 2004.0:46His drawing is counting one person.0:51We're standing on a street here that is just brownstone after brownstone after brownstone0:55after brownstone, stoop after stoop after stoop after stoop, all in a very similar color1:00range.1:00And if you could see on a photograph, the entire block is like a repetition of the exact1:05same shapes and forms.1:07So is the question trying to figure out on which of these many stoops you did a drawing?1:11Yeah, it was done on two stoops pretty much right next to each other.1:16We have to find the one detail that sets this drawing apart is that it has a elevated metal border above one of its areas where you might sit if you felt the urge, but you will not sit because of that toothed surface, and that's this way.1:34Have we already passed it? You saw it?1:36Yeah, there's a lot of toothed surface.1:38This one's unusual just because this is the only photograph that gives us any indication of where that space is.1:44It's up here on the right.1:46So this is a little treasure hunt1:50Looking at all these different1:53metal gratings and1:55decorative this and that and we were hoping to find2:02There it is, okay, okay, I see2:06The photograph makes it look like like it's huge like it's huge right, but it's actually not so2:12So that means that this drawing was made right here at number 71.2:16Is that a real plant next to the drawing?2:18It is.2:18It's a real plant, and that plant is obviously long gone.2:22This is number 71, West 119th Street?2:28119th Street, yeah.2:29Okay, gotcha.2:30Nope, those are what we would call skate stoppers in Providence.2:34I'll find you from skateboarding down the railing.2:38He was always doing something, she said.2:42We were a million friends and we were always out doing something.2:45We probably vacationed five times a year.2:47I have no regrets.2:49We never canceled.2:50We never said we can't go.2:52We just did.2:54He was just a wonderful, wonderful person.← Location 424Heart Four · Location 425Location 426 →
