This building also has no evidence that it's been used in a couple of years.0:17Where the building meets the sidewalk is dissected into three distinct frame spaces.0:24There's a retractable metal gate, a center frame space with a standpipe,0:29and to the left, the drawing was made on this peach-colored concrete.0:34This is Lieutenant Dennis Mojica.0:37He was drawn in July of 2004.0:41His drawing is counting one person.0:45So we're on 3rd Avenue between East 120th Street and East 119th Street.0:51And on the east side of the street is a church.0:54The Canaan Land Christian Church of the Apostolic Faith.0:59It's got three well-framed and defined areas on the front, two of which are blank.1:05And that's where one of the firemen were so obviously drawn.1:09I'm hoping that you're experiencing, seeing as we walk around, that a lot of these spaces1:14just cry out for some sort of compositional addition.1:19That's been our challenge from an artistic point of view, is how do we take these individual1:25surfaces, make them compositionally sound, and maybe make them sound on a whole, including1:30the buildings next to it, the stories of buildings above it, and if you're real good, maybe the1:35whole block.1:39It was his dream. It was his life. It was his first love, she said, of firefighting.1:45I admired him even more because he knew what he was here for in this life.
