The field that's moderately more to the south is labeled Great Lawn0:18Field Number 8 and the drawing was etched into this kept flat dirt surface with our fingers0:25and filled with pine needles from the pine trees just to the east of the baseball diamond.0:31This is John Paolillo.0:33He was drawn in July of 2004.0:37His drawing is counting ten people.0:40One of the last drawings, and these were fantastic drawings to be doing.0:44It was just a good day, and the whole team was all together.0:47There was a large number of us here at that point in time,0:50and the weather was just as beautiful as it is now.0:52but it would have been later on in the day with like a real sense that these drawings were just about done.1:00You know, one fraction of this gargantuan effort had been taken care of and that's sort of an important milestone for us.1:09So how did you celebrate? I mean, did you celebrate when you finished the last of the drawings?1:13We got a little ice cream or something. Ice cream has continued to be the carrot.1:19So we're now on the baseball diamond. Was this last drawing made on the baseball diamond?1:25In the sand. A wonderful return to like simple sandbox drawing.1:31Mike just demonstrated for us the process used to create this figure.1:34The process that we use to inform a lot of our youngest educational participants.1:41We tell them to simply draw something on the wall with their finger.1:45and that freedom, that lack of dedication to a mark,1:49allows kids to start thinking in the same way1:51we ultimately have them thinking about with tape.1:53If you make a line with tape and you're unhappy with it,1:56you can remove it really simply.1:58It's actually harder to get rid of that line2:00than it is to get rid of a line with tape,2:02but Mike just outlined our last drawing here2:06with his finger and we took some pictures.2:09It's filled in with some pine angels,2:11so this drawing not only was an outline,2:14materials in the middle of it. So we're at the end here. Anything else you want to say?2:19What do you want to say? What do you think you've learned from this project?2:27You just want to say a lot would be I learned a thing or two about what balance is and is not.2:35We all learned that lesson. Unfortunately, some of us haven't had the luxury of2:39applying the lessons learned. Lessons. It's a true luxury when you can't apply it.2:44We learned how to get close to people without ever meeting them.2:48That's the biggest thing I've learned.2:50It's like, you know what, reflection of James' sentiment that he feels like he's met people.2:55Mr. James Leahy, he's a police officer, the very first person that was drawn on this project shortly after September 11th.3:05I could, if you asked me if I met him, if I wasn't thinking, I'd say yes.3:12The amount of effort a handful of people can make, we have a lot to learn about what exactly3:17the repercussions of that effort will be, the impact of that effort, but it's awesome3:24to understand how much can be done by a handful of dedicated people who support one another.3:36Josephine Paololo remembered her brother-in-law's unshakable dedication to his family,3:40his wife Donna and their children Jake and Ella.3:44He could have come back from taking his kids to soccer after a 24-hour shift3:49and he would still be the first one to volunteer to babysit for me, she said.← Location 489Heart Four · Location 490
