This is Lieutenant Charles Garbarini. He was drawn in March of 2003.0:44His drawing is counting five people. We drove past Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut in early March.0:54We saw that the helicopters had been painted to their desert colors and there are reports of tanks1:00painted in the desert color palette being transported on trains.1:05Here I am, kneeling on the sidewalk, drawing my figure,1:08and an old woman stops and questions me as to what I am doing.1:13She has a cane and her back is stooped over.1:17She is wearing a tremendous amount of bright red lipstick.1:21As I stand to greet her, I pull from my pocket one of our pamphlets1:24and I explain our project to her.1:27I finish, and I'm not sure how she is going to react,1:30but I prepare myself for the worst and await her condemnations.1:33Her reply?1:35There really should be more young people like you.1:38I was taken aback.1:40I thanked her and she continued on her way,1:42then turned back and talked about her grandchildren1:44and how they are lazy and disinterested.1:47This left me with a lack of what to say in reply.1:50Fortunately, she turned again and proceeded slightly further on her course.1:54But one final time she turned and left me with some advice.1:59Work hard and have a good heart and you will do well.2:03It's what helps me get by with all this old lady stuff.2:08A softy at heart for all his wisecracking,2:11Lieutenant [name unclear] would march Dillon, now five, and [unclear] three2:15into their Pleasantville, New York home,2:17bearing flowers from the A&P for their mother.2:20He was a proud, if sardonic, professional.2:22His business card read,2:24Firefighter Charles Garbarini.
