Our 9th Avenue, between West 56th Street and West 57th Street, is a well-designed public space.0:10In this space are a series of luscious, curving, red concrete walls, ranging from shoulder height to knee-high.0:19They curve and frame grass surfaces, eateries, trees, and children's playgrounds.0:26On the red wall, encircling the space to meet, sit, and eat, is where we decided to draw our kneeling man.0:35On this curved, red, concrete plain, we chose the space that faces onto the short, luscious green hill.0:45This is Peter Alan Gay. He was drawn in March of 2003. His drawing is counting five people.0:54This beautiful park was worth returning to. The previous afternoon we arrived at it while the sun1:00was going down. It became the end of our broadcast day. There was a police officer parked next to the1:05wall that we really wanted to draw on. 99% of the officers we have talked to have been receptive and1:12outgoing toward our endeavors. But today started with a scare, the taxi driver undercover cops,1:18and we decided not to end our day in the same manner. We took up residence on a park bench1:23next to the coveted wall and sat. It was good to stop and talk and reflect on the day's travels.1:29Getting off our feet and watching the officers jockey their cruiser back and forth in front of1:34the wall became a pleasant experience. Drawing is done for the day and the topic of conversation1:40turns jokingly to how many more years we think it might take to get all this work done.1:46For nine months, Peter Gay spent four days of the week working in California and three days with1:51his family in texbury massachusetts he hated it hated grabbing american airlines flight 111:58every tuesday morning from boston to los angeles hated being away from his wife of nine years and2:03his eight-year-old daughter larissa whom he called missy or sweet patootie gay 542:09was one of the four employees of defense contractor raytheon company killed← Location 237Heart Three · Location 238Location 239 →
