Our drawing was done underneath this scaffolding awning on a plywood surface that0:33has been an open billboard for any advertiser for years and years. The only indication that0:40things have changed a couple years later is that the advertisements have changed and a0:44new crop of vines have taken a hold of the building and is slowly crawling up its side0:49to the seventh floor. According to the postman who walked by us, this building is occupied0:55and serves as a home for a lot of people.0:57It officially was an apartment building well over 20 years ago,1:01but at the present time serves as an unofficial apartment building.1:06This is Linda M. George.1:08She was drawn in March of 2003.1:12Her drawing is counting three people.1:15The morning, quiet, bright, and cold.1:19Scaffolding and a wall of advertisements provide the perfect siren's call.1:23fall, our drawing endeavor crashes onto its shore and we are blissfully left to draw.1:28In the land of ads and grotesque visual stimuli, is the drawing of Linda M. George an advertisement1:34also? My gut tells me no, but I entertain the question anyway. Is it an advertisement1:40for tape art? No, it's an example of the medium, but alas, there is nothing to sell.1:47Is it an advertisement for this project? No, it is the project. Since they are one in the same,1:54this figure does not stand as a representative for the web work, and the web pages are documentation1:59of an event and person. On top of that, we never give an indication of who made any of these2:05drawings. Nothing is signed, there are no phone numbers to call, and each drawing stands alone2:11as a testimony to itself. They are people. Occasionally we run into a curious passerby2:17to whom we explain our intention. But other than that, Linda M. George's drawing stands2:23here in New York City and exists independent of us.2:29Linda George, 27, was to be married within a month. The couple was saving to buy their first home2:35and looked forward to their wedding. A five-year employee of discount retailer TJX Companies Inc.2:41she rose through the ranks to become a buyer.2:44She was on her way to California on a buying trip.← Location 238Heart Three · Location 239Location 240 →
