Here's our best attempt at describing where to find it.0:07Enter into Central Park at West 77th Street. Walk on the south side of this entrance.0:14Look over the edge. You'll see a path which leads into the tunnel below you.0:19And to the left of that path, you see a very, very large rock surrounded by a manicured green lawn.0:27The drawing was done on that rock facing to the north. To get to the front of the rock,0:33get onto the sidewalk and keep taking rights until you're standing in front of it. When you're0:39standing in front of the rock, you have a decorative street lamp behind you labeled0:447601A. If you have your back resting against that street lamp, looking at the rock a little0:49bit to the right you see a slight triangular outcropping that blends at an0:56angle into the grass. The drawing was done in that framing. This is Thomas1:03Hannafin. He was drawn in June of 2003. His drawing is counting 10 people.1:13Central Park is a natural oasis on the dense urban island for the residents and1:19and for tape art, the difference in drawing a figure on a rock in the park and on a building1:24is tremendous. Again, I was drawing in a space where I didn't have permission,1:30transforming it momentarily as part of a grander project, but all of the weight of the process,1:36as a violation of someone else's space, had evaporated. It was a peaceful day in the park,1:41and our pace gradually shifted. We no longer were in a frenzied race to complete the figure before1:47before a citizen slash doorman slash security officer decides to shut us down.1:53It was great to be just drawing and laughing and focused on the moment.1:57The city's gift of this public space is very much appreciated.2:02I carried my brother's helmet down from the top of the heap, the pile as they call it.2:08At the end of it, I was met by a chaplain.2:11They wanted to take my brother's helmet from me, but there was no way I was going to give it up.2:17tommy hannifin a man who had stood six foot three and who once long ago led his staten island college basketball team to a city championship earning the nickname floor general and the mantle of local hero← Location 277Heart Three · Location 278Location 279 →
