Every single person is1:04drawn from our memory of what we have read and a photograph that we carry with us. After1:09we draw on a location, we mark it off with a dot on our master map. This map is passed1:14back and forth between us, as well as the reference portraits. And how it all comes1:20together sometimes is a real act of serendipitous luck. Each time we draw someone, we mark it1:26[unclear] dot on the map exactly where it was drawn.1:29That dot is numbered, and that number is put on a reference photograph.1:33When I was doing the project by myself, I wouldn't even number the dots on the map.1:38I would just memorize it.1:40At any given time, there would be dozens of names and locations locked in my head.1:44But now, the collaborative world has blessed me, and I am with like-minded folks working away on this.1:50Maps are numbered now.1:52However, sometimes we draw the same person three times.1:55Hopefully, just this once.1:57William Henry Jr., who was known as Bill or Buddy, had a galaxy of friends and admirers that stretched from the Ladder 24 firehouse on West 31st Street to the paddle tennis courts at windswept Jacob Rice Point in the Rockways.2:13He spent his vacations in places like Brazil and his free time fixing up houses for people like his mother.2:20He also let all kinds of post-conflagration messiness build up on his coat and helmet← Location 300Heart Three · Location 301Location 302 →
