We drew directly beneath those words. As of spring 2006,0:32there is a dark green awning occupying the entire sidewalk in front of this0:37building. It's to the right of the dorms for Marymont Manhattan College.0:41This is Berinthia Berenson Perkins. She was drawn in March of 2004. Her drawing0:50is counting one person. I did not take the pictures at this location. My job0:56My job today has been to find spaces, negotiate, and draw as quickly as possible.1:01At each location, I am taking photographs in my head.1:04My brain has a contact sheet filled with that day's potential photographs.1:08A week later, I was inputting, labeling, and sorting all the photographs1:12when I stumbled across one of the photos from my mental contact sheet.1:16There it was, and I felt it to be one that I had been behind the camera for.1:21The photo had the top of the figure I had drawn of Berinthia Berenson Perkins1:26with only the word building cropped above it.1:30I pointed it out to Jay, and he informed me that he was the trigger man on that particular photograph.1:35It took a while to sink in that that photo was in fact taken by another person.1:41Upon closer observation, I saw a small discrepancy between my mental image and the photograph before me.1:49I would have tilted the camera up an extra half an inch.1:52that would have bought me all of the extended hand in the drawing.1:57It was an interesting realization that a decade of taking thousands and thousands of photographs of tape art figures2:04has made me highly proficient and quite good at making new compositions from the ones I have just drawn.2:11Practice, practice, practice.2:12We are all taking turns behind the cameras,2:15and slowly but surely, we will all be taking turns behind the tape as well.2:22Berinthia Berenson Perkins is remembered as one of the loveliest, greatest people on the earth.2:28She was a photographer and actress, and was the granddaughter of the Paris fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli,2:35and grandniece of art historian Bernard Berenson.2:41Barenthea was returning home to her sons after a Cape Cod vacation.← Location 337Heart Three · Location 338Location 339 →
