He was drawn in July of 2004.0:51His drawing is counting one person.0:55103rd Street, wow.0:56Where was the drawing?0:58Inside one of these little white rectangular spaces.1:01Which one stands out as special to you?1:04The one with the round top? No.1:07Unless the dude was, like, boxing your drawing.1:09So it looks like it's been painted over,1:11and the tape has survived being painted over.1:14Wow, that's amazing.1:16Amazing that they didn't just pull it off.1:18It is painter's tape.1:19But the mural is kind of deteriorating,1:21And this is sort of a testament to why tape art has the advantage of being temporary,1:26because it doesn't deteriorate.1:28It boils down to the larger conflict of who owns the work once it's done.1:33Is it the community's responsibility to keep it up?1:36Is it the person who commissioned the piece's responsibility?1:38Or is it the artist's responsibility?1:40And usually that's a three-way triangle of pointing,1:44and the work just deteriorates in the meantime.1:46time.1:49His primary job was fighting fires, but when he was not pulling people from burning1:54buildings, he was tending to his small farm in the backyard of his house in Campbell Hall,1:59New York.2:00It was a way he could totally disconnect from all the madness of Manhattan, his brother2:04Steven said.2:05He would just make his way through the community every day.← Location 466Heart Four · Location 467Location 468 →
