To get to that bridge,0:04you can enter into Central Park off of Fifth Avenue at East 90th Street. Cross over East Drive0:11and head south on the bridle path and eventually be covered by a bridge popular for stretching0:18and leading to the Central Park Reservoir South Gate House. Under the bridge there is a set of0:24metal double doors and the drawing was made on this double door.0:32This is Orio Palmer.0:35He was drawn in July of 2004.0:38His drawing is counting one person.0:42One of the things I just want to bring up is the idea that I remember years and years0:46and years ago, making a mural on the Worcester Art Museum.0:50making a mural and then doing daily entries about the project that went on for five weeks.0:57I remember a peer of mine saying, well, you're defeating the purpose of public art1:02if you're putting it on the web.1:04To which my response is, what do you mean?1:06And I said, well, the whole point of your work has always been that people experience it directly1:14and that by giving these updates and sort of creating a new version of it,1:20you're actually creating another art piece.1:22You're creating sort of separate art pieces inspired by each other,1:25but they actually don't correlate as public pieces as much as you would like to think.1:31Well, that's maybe a pretty good point.1:34And any mulling on that that's happened over the years sort of crescendos with this piece1:38because here we are with the bold declaration that the website is the final piece,1:45but the final piece allows you to revisit our paths and take that journey,1:54thus giving everyone the physical public sensation of moving through space and doing all those.2:02It's a web I weave in my mind constantly, and we look at the definition of the Internet as public.2:20Mario Joseph Palmer, a 20-year veteran of the New York Fire Department,2:25was the battalion chief of Engine Company 3 and Ladder 12 in Chelsea.2:30He lived in Valley Stream, New York with his wife, Debbie, and their three children, Dana, Keith, and Alyssa.← Location 486Heart Four · Location 487Location 488 →
